Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as she sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky ground [...] and when the sun rose, it was scorched; and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. Other seed fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.

Seed of Inspiration

#WomensMarchHuddle

Congratulations!  When you signed up for Seeds to Scatter, you became part of perhaps the largest post Women's March huddle.  As the video says, "It's time to put down roots, build a team -- the creative, the committed, the courageous -- together [we] will find [our] strength, get inspired, and help build a movement, because when we stick together, we can do incredible things.

Seed of Action

#SocialMediaActivism

Our first seed of action will be like pouring Miracle Grow on our army of 516 feminist seed-scatterers... and counting.  Today, we ask you to share with the world, via social media and/or email, your intention to complete this 40-day march, along with an invitation to others to join you. Some of you have been amazing about doing this already! We promise the shameless promotion will stop after today, but it's important for you to do for four reasons:

  1. You are much more likely to follow through with your commitment if you publicly share your intention with others.
  2. Publicly declaring yourself a feminist is an important action to de-stigmatize feminism. Contrary to the character Gladys Leeman from the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous," we are not all "big city, no-bra-wearing, hairy-legged women libbers;" feminists are people of every gender, age, race, ethnicity, profession, socio-economic status, romantic orientation, religion, and background.
  3. Marching by yourself is a schlep; marching with friends is a parade! Besides, you're going to want to talk about your seeds with others -- so get your dad, your wife, your neighbor, your surly teen, your cute postal worker, your BFF, and your dentist to march with you.
  4. Most importantly, inviting others will multiply our seeds.  If your proclamation/invitation gets just one more marcher to sign up, it will be the same as doubling the seeds of love and action you scatter -- double your letters to congress, double your donations, double your random acts of kindness. Miracle Grow!

For Email:

Dear Friends and Family,
Today I begin a virtual 40-day Women's March with more than 500 other proud feminists, scattering small seeds of love and action each day.  It's not too late to join me! Each day you will get an email in your inbox via the blog that will contain two "seeds."  The first seed will be an inspirational "seed" made by a woman -- a poem, piece of artwork, biography, or song -- something to plant within to sustain our energy for the long march ahead.  The second seed will be a seed of action to plant within the world, such as a prompt for contacting your representatives, links for petitions, ideas for reducing your carbon footprint, and random acts of kindness.  Our seeds may seem small, but with more than 500 people participating over 40 days, our positive impact will be immense! I hope you will join me. Just go to www.seedstoscatter.org to learn more and sign up!
Sincerely,
Me
